CAN YOU HELP?
Speeding is an issue which Residents have raised as a major concern. Consequently, a fixed Vehicle Activated Speed Indicator (SID) has been placed near the school to help reduce speed in that area. The purchase of a mobile SID has also enabled other places in Bramham to be identified as “hot spots” for speeding. The evidence from the mobile unit shows that whilst in place, the speeds are moderated so we now need a more permanent solution to safeguard our village.
Would you be willing either through your business or individually, either anonymously or otherwise, to sponsor a SID to help educate vehicle drivers and help drive (please excuse the pun) down the vehicle speeds within our village. During the meeting of the Parish Council, held on the 5th of January, it was agreed to purchase three further fixed SIDs to be placed, in priority order, on Bowcliffe Road, midway along Clifford Road and on Wetherby Road. Whilst the default position remains that Council is including the funds within its budget any money saved by private or other sponsorship can be diverted to other causes at the discretion of Council.
The Wetherby Ward Councillors already have very kindly agreed to pay for the first of the SIDs (Bowcliffe Road) and I have received a verbal pledge for funding of a second from a resident especially concerned about the speeding within the village.
Clifford Parish Council are in the process of ordering four SIDs for their village and we will benefit indirectly from them as they will from ours. This is a good opportunity for businesses or individuals to help make an impact on what is an issue which has been discussed off and on, certainly since before the 2005 Parish Plan.
Leeds City Council Highways currently charge £3,500.00 for the smiley/sad faced unit (like the ones by the school); this includes the installation costs. You will have noticed the mobile unit that has been used around the village over the past four months which can either display the smiley/sad face or simple messages like “slow down” and “thank you”.
If you are willing either as a business or privately (either singly or as a group) to sponsor a SID unit please contact the Parish Clerk, on clerk@bramhamparishcouncil.gov.uk and any communication will of course be treated confidentially or in accordance with your wishes. It would be a real opportunity for residents of Bramham to make a positive impact on an issue which affects the whole village.
