WOULD YOU BE PREPARED TO WEAR THE “YELLOW JERSEY”

Well, not actually the “yellow jersey” but more of a HI-Vis vest or jacket.

The Parish Council is asking for expressions of interest from residents who would be prepared to help man/monitor a mobile vehicle activated “Speed Indicator Device”; it will be set up at different times and in different sites across the village to help moderate the speed of vehicles through our village whilst at the same time collecting anonymous data relating to the number and speed of cars passing the unit. The very fact that there are one or two people manning the unit will in itself cause drivers to slow down.

The Parish Council is negotiating the purchase of such a unit but it is unlikely to be operational until the end of April at the earliest.

There are three main reasons for manning the unit: Firstly, as mentioned above, the visible presence of Hi-Vis jacketed marshals will by itself deter speeding; secondly, being a mobile unit there is always a possibility if it is unmanned that it will be spirited away and thirdly, a visual count of the cars passing the unit will help validate the data collected by the unit.

The marshals will not be required to record any details which might identify any particular car or driver and indeed it would be unlawful to do so. It is expected that each monitoring session would last no longer that 2 hours on each occasion.

So, if you think you would like to be one of those privileged to wear the “yellow jersey” please drop an e-mail to the clerk@bramhamparishcouncil.gov.uk giving your contact details, which will only be used for this particular purpose. The Traffic Management Working Group will then contact you giving a more comprehensive description of the role and attached responsibility as well as specifically detailing “how often” and “for how long” each person might be required. Obviously the more fellow villagers on the rota the less onerous it will be for each individual.

By responding you are not committing yourself, you are simply saying you might like to be involved in this important activity within the village.

Please contact our Clerk, Nancy Fairbairn on clerk@bramhamparishcouncil.gov.uk putting in the subject line “Mobile SID Volunteer”.

Thank you.

Traffic Management Working Group, Bramham Parish Council.
