SPEEDING AWARENESS
CAN I HELP? YES I CAN! YES I CAN!
As part of Bramham Parish Council’s campaign to raise both residents’ and visiting motorists’ awareness of the speeding problems on our roads, wheelie-bin stickers are to be delivered to each household over the next 4 to 6 weeks. Residents will be asked to place the stickers on either their green or black bin so that when the bins are “put out” there will be a visible presence at the kerbside each week. The stickers will be accompanied by a letter suggesting which bin should be used and where the sticker should be placed on the bin and how the bin should be placed at the kerbside. Leeds City Council state on their website that the bins should be placed at the “kerbside” which would give the stickers the greatest exposure to oncoming traffic.
You may have noticed that stickers have already been distributed to the houses along Timber Close & Bowcliffe and Clifford Roads and these have already been commented upon.
So to answer the question “can I help?”, yes, you most certainly can, by displaying the sticker when it is delivered. You may think that your sticker will not make any difference; if it were the only one it may not but if it is one of approximately 700 spread around the village it will catch someone’s eye and make someone think! Everyone’s effort, no matter how small, creates a bigger picture.
Because of the Pandemic we have not yet been able to borrow and use a Mobile Speed Indicator Display which was to have been used to reinforce the 20mph limit on problem roads and at differing times. The Council is looking at ways of securing a more permanent unit which could be used over a longer period and be repeated at intervals.
In this way, every resident can help to address the problem of Speeding within the Village. Displaying the sticker and keeping to 20 mph will mean a safer village for everyone. This is only one of the ways in which The Parish Council is working on a range of initiatives designed to work towards creating a safer environment for all.
